More often than you would image, we come across amazing items that even our sellers are unaware of!
As an estate appraiser and liquidation manager, my biggest thrill is when we manage to find a true treasure in and amongst the inventory of an estate. Often the seller is completely unaware that this item even exists and certainly they are unaware of its value. Please see below a few of our greatest finds!
George Sotter Original Oil On Canvas / $200,000
This painting was part of a small estate that we were hired to liquidate. The artist and the value was unknown to the client at the time we were hired. After identifying the painting, we placed the artwork in the appropriate auction and it brought a final price of $200,000.
Alexander Calder Earrings / Auction Estimate $50,000-$70,000
These interesting earrings were found during an appraisal assignment in a hidden drawer on a piece of furniture. The earrings were designed and made by artist Alexander Calder. The earrings will be in an upcoming auction in the fall with an auction estimate of $50,000-$70,000. Results will be posted after the event.
A Pair of Finn Juhl Lounge Chairs, Signed / $40,000
Mid Century Modern furniture is very highly regarded and sought after. Especially Danish MCM. When this pair of Finn Juhl lounge chairs was discovered and we realized they were also signed, they were sold to the highest bidder for the price of $40,000.
